Napa will become mostly Hispanic by 2030 - sooner than six other Bay
Area counties - as whites decline in number and Hispanics' numbers
multiply, according to projections from the state.
In fact, by 2040 every Bay Area county except San Francisco will be
populated mostly by Hispanics.
The Department of Finance used factors like racial fertility rates,
mortality rates and statistical models to come up with population
projections of how the state will change through 2050 - county by
county.
Starting from a population of 125,146 in 2000, the state estimates
Napa County will more than double to 251,630 people by 2050.
But the real news is the ethnic shift to expect by 2030. That year,
the state estimates 91,896 Hispanics will eclipse 77,037 Caucasians to
become the majority race in Napa County. The percentage of Hispanics
will increase each year thereafter, according to the state estimates.
By 2050, more than 60 percent of Napa County residents will be
Hispanic.
